While looking for scenic and not too demanding trails, you cannot skip Adršpach in the Czech Republic. It is a unique place in the Stołowe Mountains, plenty of unusual rocks and thousands of tourists. Despite the crowds, Adršpach is worth visiting - this place you will never forget!
Adršpach is a place that you can go with entire family. A small loop of Old Parts is undemanding trail, which can be gone through with children and baby carriage (aside from some of the attractions). While new parts are already much more challenging, but still everyone can pass them on. It is important to wear appropriate footwear (forget about flip-flops and high heels), preferably above the ankle and to have a sweatshirt, even on a hot day. In some parts of the rock city it will be much cooler than in open spaces.
"Miracles" in Adršpach begin already 100 meters from the entrance. The Giant Armchair and monumental Jug are standing there. The handle of the Jug looks like "only" six meter high window in the rock. After another 100 meters you will see a Sugar loaf. The rock is 20 meters high and resembles the famous Hercules cudgel from the Ojcowski National Park in Poland.
Behind it you will see the "Gothic Gate", built in 1839. Does it look familiar? You could see it in the movie "The Chronicles of Narnia". Soon we reach the Elephant Square where the snow remains for a long time. Sequentially we pass the Devils Bridge, the Elizabeth Tower, Madonna, Dwarf or Lioness. At the Grand Square you will see small waterfall. Much more impressive is the Great waterfall, hidden near the cave called the Temple. Waterfall is 16 meters high, it flows from the Rocky lake. During the season, if the tourists shout- Karkonoszu, give us some water! - Service opens the valve at the waterfall and much more water than normally falls to the Temple. The valve has been functioning since the nineteenth century, but then opening the valve was... extra charged.
Another attraction waiting for us is a boat trip on the Rocky lake (from May to October, from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm attraction is additionally charged). This reservoir is artificial, it was created in the late eighteenth century, as a result of damming the Metuja river. The trip takes 20 minutes and the most difficult moment is to get to the marina, this trail has to very steep stairs.
After returning to the Grand Square we have two options - go back using the same route, or go the green trail to explore New Parts. The decision is significant because the green trail consists of the countless stairs, steps, uphill and downhill. We must realistically assess the strength, especially if you are walking with kids.
Just at the very beginning of the New Parts we will see monumental Lovers - the highest rock of Adršpach, it is about 100 meters high. It is worth noticing that one of the most difficult climbing routes leads to the top of this formation. The proof are the events from several decades ago: after the aggression of the Warsaw Pact troops on Czechoslovakia the inscription "21 srpna FUJ" appeared in the middle of the Lover wall. For a long time the authorities could not find anyone who would be able to get on the rock and remove the inscription.
Following the trail of the New Parts, we come to the Great Panorama. For this view it is worth climbing up all the stairs of the Rock city! From another viewpoint we can see Mayor and His Wife. Another attraction uneasy to pass through is Mouse Hole. It is 30 meters long rift and at the narrowest point it is only 50 cm wide. All we have to pass is the Echo, and soon we will see the lake and the Sand quarry.
Adršpach can be visited hundreds of times. Every time this place will seem fresh and new. It is the best to come here during week days - to avoid the crowds on the trail.
