The book „How the animals sleep“ by Marie Stumpfova and Jiri Dvorak helps the children understand the similarities between the animals and people. However it focuses not only on one aspect of those similarities – dreaming. The authors consequently lead children through the home seclusions and wilderness to show the similarities and differences in the ways of sleeping of different species.

The beautiful graphical design and humoristic notes make this book straightforward and the new knowledge is easy to acquire. From that we can learn, for example, that the sun charges the battery of the bumblebee just like it does to us all. The young otters sleep on the stomach of their mums – again – just like the human babies.

The authors are not afraid to present the youngest readers the difficult topics such as the global warming issues that can harm the habitats of the polar bears – the huge glaciers in which they can hunt and live. The authors describe the camels in a very interesting way. Not only do they take into consideration the unknown (by me!) fact of those animals sleeping on the knees to avoid being burnt by the sand but they also underline the fact that the camels are not confused by the illusions and they are not misled by the fata morgana, opposite to people.

The book teaches sensitivity and a certain outlook on world of a continuous amazement and respect at the same time. We strongly recommend it!
